The House on Begley Street

The House on Begley Street

Ed Begley Jr., and his lovely wife Rachelle, join Adam and Ray for a conversation about going green, hanging doors, and roller-skating on Charlie’s Angels.

Show Summary

Adam and Ray open the show by welcoming Ed Begley Jr. and his wife Rachelle Carson-Begley. The guys chat about their new web series, ‘On Begley Street,’ which chronicles the couple and their family as they renovate their house to be even more environmentally conscious than it was before. Adam also recalls the time he did a shoot with Ed where Ed arrived via bicycle, and Ray talks to him about his compost. Later, Adam and the gang look back on Ed’s Charlie’s Angels appearance.

Moving to the phone lines, the first caller wants to know how much of green technology is simply marketing, and where can you get the best bang for your buck on upgrades. The group also helps a caller replace their hollow core doors with solid core doors. As the show wraps up, they talk about re-roofing using solar panels, the ridiculousness of LA City inspectors, and why hair dryers waste too much energy.

This was the worst episode since Ray came back. It wasn’t a bad episode exactly, it’s just that Ace on the House is a great show because it’s just Adam and Ray and their dynamic. Idk why, but guests just interrupt that. The reason I like Ace on the House us because there aren’t really any guests, the dynamic between Adam and Ray, and sometimes Chris, is so good because they know each other so well. The more Ace on the House starts to resemble The Adam Carolla Show the worse it will get.

This is what The Adam Carolla Project should have been:

You really need to get Bronson on as a guest.

I disagree with Rick and agree with Minesh.

I learned some new things from Ed, and the episode with the lady from the antique/salvage store was the “worst” this year – but I don’t like being negative, because I can take the good, and take the bad, and there I have the facts of life.

    Get Bronson on AOTH, please.

I think much of what Ed does is just total nonsense and absolutely unnecessary, BUT I have great respect for someone who believes in something strongly and lives without hypocrisy. Unlike 99% of the environmental movement. So, kudos to Ed. Although, Ed needs to read a bit more and shut his yap about hydraulic fracturing causes tap water to light on fire and contaminates groundwater. Either that, or invent a car that runs on farts.

It’s his AC/DC Angus Young Costume from the 9th grade Halloween Ball at North Hollywood High in 1979.

Screw the haters – this was an awesome show. Ed really brings it when he comes on Ace’s shows. Props to Ed for not taking himself too seriously but taking sustainability seriously.

Ed doesn’t REALLY care about the environment. He admitted that he does what he does to be cool, For, in his words, “the bragging rights”. Typical Hollywood phoney. He’s worried about watering turf in the parkway strip but he’s installing a swimming pool and a leaky cistern? What a dick! He may be knowledgeable about the “green” business, but it’s born out of selfishness, NOT, as I believe Adam approaches such issues, practicality.

I like how Ed handles his woman: when the backhand is called for, by God, the backhand is what Ed will deal out!

I can’t stand Ed’s over the top tree hugging ways however he is one of the few celebs that actually lives what he preaches. For this reason only I respect him for practicing what he preaches even if he is totally off his rocker.

It would be impossible for Ed to be completely “off the grid” with solar unless he lights his at night with candles, doesn’t use any appliances or charge any portable devices. He must rely on the grid at night.

There are these newfangled things called “batteries” that let you store up power to use when the sun is not shining.

I like and respect Ed Begley, but sometimes he can be gullible and people shouldn’t believe that nonsense he repeated from the documentary, “Gasland”. Even the film maker has admited that not only did well water in that area contain methane decades before fracking started, but that he was aware of it and didn’t put it in the movie. See for yourself:

And that bilge water about pumping poisonous chemicals into the ground only works on people that have never tried to drill through a piece of steel or rock. You have to lubricate the drill bit, but they’re not “pumping” chemicals down there; the drill lubricant is a tiny fraction. Mostly what gets pumped down is water and modern operations recycle most of that.

How badass would it be if Aceman did a green building episode? I know he hates the EPA and all that shit, but so much of green building makes financial sense in the long run, which is a topic Aceman also covers a lot. You have to throw down some upfront costs, but u get ur shit back pretty quick. Food for thought.

fracking process pumps a lot of water and steam down into a hole and all that oil then gets mixed into any nearby aquafer. Thats how drinking water is at risk and cancer is at record levels in Canadian communnities that have this industry in town. google Mother Jones acrticles on Canadian oil sands.

I’ve heard this happen more than a few times to be honest, I think people are best of picking a local freelancer or least one which resides in their own country, that way they are obeyed by the same laws. No police will knock on a door of someone who lives in another country.
