Show Summary

Adam opens the show with another good Full-Tard story. Adam and Ray then welcome Nicole Curtis of ‘Rehab Addict’ to the show. First, Adam quizzes Nicole on her construction knowledge, then the guys respond to a video question about ripping up vinyl off the floor. Next up, the group answers email questions about moving a load bearing stud, and what to do for insulating a house. Later they take a couple calls about artificial grass and people who don’t shut the lights off. As the show wraps up, the guys joke around about Murphy Beds.

    Sam From Oz:

That sheet vinyl flooring is probably loaded with asbestos. That particular product has that white paper backing, which is often pretty high in asbestos and the worst kind, since it turns into a fluffy mess when scraped (easily breathed in). Ray was looking for black, which means he was looking for the black floor glue that can be a problem. In this case, it’s that white paper backing you want to be especially careful of.

Wet everything down thoroughly with one of those hand-pump pressurized jugs, what Adam called a Hudson Sprayer. Just water with a bit of dish soap should be good. Keep it a wet mess. Use a long-handled scraper and don’t be afraid to sharpen the edge with a grinder, to make things easier. Scoop the whole mess into garbage bags while still wet and send it to a landfill.

By the time you add the cement board, the tile, and the thin set you place the tile on, your elevation is going to change considerably. Make sure you plan for that with doorways, plumbing, and the like.

Nicole’s show doesn’t f**k around with false cliffhangers and soap opera storylines like on other HGTV shows. That’s the best part of it. She gets it done and MOVES ON. Hear that Income Property?

That guy should strip the shingles, he will find some kind of sheathing under there, probably boards, have the insulation guy blow in cellulose (or whatever) then add tyvek and foam, and siding on top. I had that done at my house in CT.

SERIOUSLY. Alison Rosen is the most boring, unfunny chick ever. She annoys the everloving shit out of me.

Holy shit, another example of Adam being brilliant in the presence of idiots. Its unfortunate that Ray represents the large portion of contractors, albeit competent, aren’t necessarily intelligent. The girl, dumb luck, persistence and attractiveness have led her to where she is – less competent than your average contractor, but surround yourself with money and skilled labor and any job can be done. I laughed my ass off when she said her plasterer was from Italy. Like that has anything to do with his abilities!

Adam, you held it together — between instructing Ray on radio etiquette, (come on Ray, you don’t know how to do this yet?), and dealing with a guest who knows only a bit more than Ty Pennington, your advise was excellent, and your comments on human nature where spot on. Thanks.
