    Show Summary

No Ace today, but Ray invited his buddies Chris Boehm and Lorenzo Neal to help out the show. The guys respond to a video question about repairing an eyesore of a water slide, and then a series of emails about rafters, lighting, and mounting a TV to block a fireplace. Of course, Ray also provides Just the Tip. As the show wraps up, Ray and Chris help callers with their broken air condition units, and removing 2x4s from their concrete patios.

Hey I can tell you guys are from somewhere that doesn’t get a deep freeze. I usually like your advise to people, but to the guy in Montana with the expansion joints in his patio, the advise you gave him could be disastrous. If he puts black plastic in the joints, then covers it with gravel of some type, it’ll look really nice… until the middle of the winter when the ice that is in all the joints expands, and heaves and cracks the slabs. Trust me, ice is a powerful force that will make minced meat out of those slabs. He’s better off taking the wood out, and filling the joints with a product like this:

    http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showline/offerpage.aspx?Productid=2049&GroupID=967&History=39324:330:513:532&ModelID=967

There are other products that are similar. The best thing to do is fill up the joint partially with a foam backer rod and top it off with this stuff. Then you won’t use as much of the expensive stuff. When it’s done, he’ll have his expansion joints still in place, plus a weather tight seal, so water doesn’t get in and turn to destructive ice. And it looks nice too. Anyway, that’s my two cents. Great show. It’s fun to listen to regular construction guys giving advice rather some polished HGTV type painting rosy pictures.

You can’t just make the breaker a 40 from a 30 so it doesn’t trip. the wire is rated for 30 not 40. you just burned down her apartment when the breaker doesn’t trip and the wire burns. hope ACE has an umbrella policy to cover incompetent advice, love the show, take care

I was thinking the same thing with the breaker – you need to check the wire size before you go swapping breakers.

Big ace on the house fan

Really? Just swap out a 30amp for a 40amp? Probably not great advice. These guys have some decent moments together but overall the show just comes off the rails without Ace. Maybe Ace should have Chris on for a few episodes instead of Ray. Ray’s shtick is getting older then Adam’s. He just kinda sucks now. Ray, why are you so bitchy about Adam. Sounds like you would still be without shoes if he didn’t pity you.
